Two Sides of the American Dream Coin

Frankly. I've had it. With Mitt Romney and his surrogates ratcheting up the "Obama as other" rhetoric on a daily basis, I.ve had it. I've had it up to here ( hand to top of forehead) with the cries of "foreign" and "doesn't understand how America works" and "doesn't understand the American system" and "needs to learn how to be American."

Doesn't understand America and how America works? Needs to learn how to be American? The story of Barack Obama is the embodiment of the story of America. It is the American dream brought to life. The story of how any child, no matter the social and economic circumstances into which they are born, can rise to become anything they want to be in this country--up to and including President of the United States. How much more American can you get? Isn't that what every parent wants their children to believe? What could be better than a real-life, in-the-flesh, rags-to-riches story for their children and their children's children to strive to emulate? Barack Obama should be held up as the perfect example of what can be achieved in America.

On the other hand there's the person who is throwing out the accusations-one Willard Mitt Romney. What's his story? Born into wealth and privilege. The son of an auto company CEO and Governor of Michigan. Never wanting for anything, money never being an object. Born into circumstances that ensured him the best of everything, from the finest education to all the social and business connections necessary for success in life. Is this the story parents want to hold up to their children as an example of what it takes to achieve the American dream? That unless they're born on third base with the proverbial silver spoon in the mouths they just have to come to grips with the fact that some rungs on the achievement ladder are reserved for those who were lucky enough to be born with those advantages? That they should adjust their dreams and aspirations accordingly and accept their lot in life?

I don't think so.

Their code words translate out to "he's black".

It's all pure racism. We know it and we need to make sure they know we know it.

And fight it.

Unfortunately Des, Mit "Roofdog" Romney has history on his side. George W. Silver Spoon Bush managed to destroy the country for 8 years so Romney figures why not him also? If they are dumb enough to vote Bush in TWICE (with a little help from a partisan majority SCOTUS), why not him? He is banking on at least 51% of the voting electorate to either be ADHD or in late stage Alzheimer's. And sadly, he may be right.
