A Noun, a Verb, and POW

President Obama's re-election campaign released this ad highlighting Obama's decision to get Osama bin Laden:

John McCain blew a gasket:

"Shame on Barack Obama for diminishing the memory of September 11th and the killing of Osama bin Laden by turning it into a cheap political attack ad...This is the same President who said, after bin Laden was dead, that we shouldn't 'spike the ball' after the touchdown. And now Barack Obama is not only trying to score political points by invoking Osama bin Laden, he is doing a shameless end-zone dance to help himself get reelected.

"No one disputes that the President deserves credit for ordering the raid, but to politicize it in this way is the height of hypocrisy...[I]t is no wonder why President Obama is shamelessly turning the one decision he got right into a pathetic political act of self-congratulation."

Of course Senator McCain would never do such a thing. Something like...oh, let's say shamelessly and repeatedly exploit his time spent as a POW in Vietnam to try and gain political advantage. Never:

Never.

Never.

Damn that Google machine.

I think the 2000 McCain was the real McCain and that is the saddest commentary of all. I finally read Bob's article with the included essay. I think we are seeing a political survivor. Every once in awhile the real McCain slips through. I remember the stirring speech he gave when Russ Feingold was forced out. Unfortunately, the moderate wing of tge GOP either had to quit or dive to the right faster than Brooks Robinson.

Well, hypocrisy is a given for Republicans. Sad that I almost got taken in by the apparently fake 2000 “honorable” version of McCain.

Obama took a tremendous gamble by taking the more complex and riskier route of sending in US troops to kill Bin Laden and providing incontrovertible proof that bin Laden was dead. Thankfully, as a result, no hare brained conspiracy theories that bin Laden is still alive sunning himself in Costa Rica with Rush Limbaugh to rally his delusional followers and wingnuts who want to deny any positive accomplishment by Obama. Notice how the al Qaeda conspiracy theorists are more reasonable and have been silent but the wingnuts are still in delusional denial?

Obama could have taken the easy route and Daisy Cuttered/MOAB'ed the compound from 10,000 feet without risk...and without the definitive death knell blow to al Qaeda and the treasure trove of intelligence captured from the compound. Smart man.

This President who has never served in the military has more courage and cohones and respect for the military than his 2 draft dodging predecessors.
