It appears being a Democrat in Texas is quite dangerous these days.
Anthony Spangler, a spokesman for state Sen. Wendy Davis, said that at 4 p.m. two women were working in Davis' Fort Worth office when they heard a loud thud. The fire alarm quickly went off.
They opened a door to find a pile of Molotov cocktails on fire. A staffer grabbed a fire extinguisher and put out the waist-high flames.
Spangler said police have interviewed witnesses but don't know who was behind the attack.
"It is impossible to speculate" on whether it is politically motivated, he said. "The staffers are obviously very shaken up by the incident."
If you recall, Houston Rep. Gene Green's Houston office was shot at last year.
I would like to speculate as to the motive for these violent acts. Cowardly, small minded right wingers are using intimidation to try to cheat democracy by scaring well-liked Democrats. They haven't been able to win the legitimate way so they are resorting to violence. Or perhaps they are conspiracy theorists who spend too much time listening to Sean Hannity and Rush Limbaugh, who would rather see people die than 'libs' or 'feminazi's' in office.
If it is found to be a politically motivated bombing I would like the perpetrator(s) brought up on terrorist charges and fully repudiated by all Texas Republicans who currently hold office.
I would like to end this blog by referring you to the report Homeland Security issued early in the Obama administration about the danger of right wing extremism and terrorism. You can read the memo here. You can read another story about how the Department of Homeland Security reduced the number of employees devoted to investigating right wing terrorism here, after they bowed to pressure put on them by right-wing media sources outraged that the Department of Homeland Security was investigating the terrorists that are on their side.
