Clint Eastwood Says It All at Halftime. Conservatives, of Course, Hated It.

If you haven't seen the Halftime in America commercial featuring Clint Eastwood, you have to take a couple of minutes and watch.  It was Classic Clint, gruff voice and all, talking about how we pulled together to save the auto industry and how Detroit, and the US, is recovering.  It put into words what many of us believe.  Have a look:

It was the perfect message, especially yesterday.  The reaction of some to the message, of course, was cynical hatred of anything that might just hint that anything the President did turned out well.  This morning, Karl Rove, on Fox News, slammed the commercial, falsely claiming that Chrysler and Eastwood were funding a political ad for Obama using government money.  Obviously, he was referring to the auto industry bailout that the President pushed, that, BTW, has been paid back.  Michelle Maulkin also accused Eastwood of doing a "pro-bailout ad" for Obama.  Eastwood has always been pretty independent, supporting McCain in 2008 and running as a non-partisan for mayor of Carmel, California.

Eastwood considers himself a Republican, but not a conservative.  In an October interview in GQ, he talked about how he doesn't agree with current Republican politics.  His comments are again Classic Clint:

"Because what I really believe is, Let's spend a little more time leaving everybody alone. These people who are making a big deal out of gay marriage? I don't give a fuck about who wants to get married to anybody else! Why not?! We're making a big deal out of things we shouldn't be making a deal out of."  And, "They go on and on with all this bullshit about "sanctity"--don't give me that sanctity crap! Just give everybody the chance to have the life they want."

We're lucky that we have people like Eastwood speaking his mind.  Perhaps if more people did that, we could stop some of the nonsense and sideshow that's going on in politics today.

And don't forget that the auto bailouts were initiated under the Bush Administration. And I saw a clip of Karl Rove flat out knowingly lie about how the auto bailouts will "never be paid back to the taxpayers". Which as you have noted Des, has already been mostly paid back even before Rove open his facial sphincter and spewed his verbal diarrhea.

And by the way, how come no wingnut faux outrage when Ronald Reagan FIRST bailed out Chrysler during HIS Presidency in the 1980's?

Because wingnuts are pathologically consummate hypocrites?

Naaaah, couldn't be.
