Hallelujah! At long last, some backbone. Following his recess appointment of Richard Cordray as the head of the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau yesterday, President Obama announced 3 appointments to the National Labor Relations Board:
Streamline union elections and inform workers of their collective bargaining rights? Those commies. As one might expect, Republican heads are 'sploding over both the Cordray and the NLRB appointments.
Arrogantly circumventing the American people? What the hell have you and a minority of senators been doing for the last 3 years, Mitchie? Arrogant circumvention? Dodd-Frank is a law duly passed by Congress. You and your Republican cohorts don't get to stamp your feet, hold your breath 'til you turn blue, and deny confirmation of a director until the law is changed to suit you and your corporate masters.
The right-wing blog Power Line:
And 3 years of obstructionism has been about something other than Republican political interests?
Andrew Breitbart's Big Government:
Yep, that's exactly what he can do. Article II, Section 3:
From Huffington Post:
What difference would it make, Mitch? There could be three days or three hundred days of debate and the result would be the same. I also doubt that the framers had in mind a minority in the Senate being able to bring the entire government to a halt. The words are advice and consent, not obstruction and nullification. I wonder where GOP's outrage was when this was happening?
And this:
I love the smell of Republican hypocrisy in the morning. Keep it up, Mr. President.
"The move, which is arguably as important as the Cordray appointment, will ratchet up opposition from Republicans and make this an even bigger fight, since they have been attacking the NLRB regularly for its moves to streamline union elections and inform workers of their rights.
Obama is set to appoint Sharon Block, Terence Flynn, and Richard Griffin to the board -- something unions have made a big priority for them in the new year. Senate Republicans have opposed the recess appointments to the NLRB on constitutional grounds, but unions charge that Republicans are only interested in rendering the agency inoperative."

"In response to President Obama's "what took him so long?" recess appointment of Richard Cordray to head the Consumer Financial Protection Board, Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell responded thus, according to CNN:
"President Obama, in an unprecedented move, has arrogantly circumvented the American people by 'recess' appointing Richard Cordray as director of the new CFPB," said Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell in a statement."

"This is classic Barack Obama. Heedless of history, American tradition and the law, he cares about nothing but his own political interests."
And 3 years of obstructionism has been about something other than Republican political interests?
Andrew Breitbart's Big Government:
"So now it seems the executive branch of our government thinks it rules over the legislative branch. King Obama can now (regardless of what the Constitution says) tell congress that they are officially in recess..."
Yep, that's exactly what he can do. Article II, Section 3:
"..he may, on extraordinary Occasions, convene both Houses, or either of them, and in Case of Disagreement between them, with Respect to the Time of Adjournment, he may adjourn them to such Time as he shall think proper ."
From Huffington Post:
"Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.) said that in addition to raising legal questions, Obama's NLRB appointments are "particularly egregious" because the president didn't even nominate Block and Griffin until two days before lawmakers left town for the holidays in December.
That means "neither has undergone a single confirmation hearing or a single day of debate," McConnell said in a tersely worded statement."What the President did today sets a terrible precedent that could allow any future President to completely cut the Senate out of the confirmation process, appointing his nominees immediately after sending their names up to Congress. This was surely not what the framers had in mind when they required the President to seek the advice and consent of the Senate in making appointments."

"...[T]he past three Republican presidents also made recess appointments to the NLRB. Ronald Reagan and George H.W. Bush each made three recess appointments to the NLRB, while George W. Bush made seven such appointments."
And this:
"According to reports from the Congressional Research Service, during their time in office President Ronald Reagan made 240 recess appointments, President George H. W. Bush made 77 recess appointments, President Bill Clinton made 140 recess appointments, and George W. Bush made 171."

cobbo, you beat me to the a$$ end of the punch.
Rubio's highly inflamatory remarks about Obama only add more bile to the right wingnuts. There was no excuse for that either, and we now know that Romney's vice-presidential pick will be the Latin version of Cheney hailing from the most convoluted political arena in the U.S. Young, insanely prideful, and devious to a maddening degree.
The Tealiban nitwits are pissed because Pres. Obama has backed them into a corner and they know it.
I am thrilled with this. The GOP is a bunch of whiney hypocrites; we all know they would not hesitate to do anything it took to get what they want and screw the American people.
How anyone with a brain can vote for any of those a$$clowns is beyond me.
Good point.
Des, You're suggesting using the wrong end of the elephant.
They brought this on themselves! Had they done the right thing and not tried to play fast and loose with the rules they would not have been caught flat footed. I, for one, am THRILLED that President Obama did this. It is about f**king time.
This is probably another reason why Republicans are pissed. Obama screwed them with the timing. If he had made the appointments a day earlier they would have only been good through 2012. By waiting a day they’re effective until the end of 2013.

How about Grand Old Hypocrites? The symbol could be an elephant with a head on both ends.
For all those Teapublicans that scream abuse of power--here are some FACTS: Reagan averaged 30 recess appointments PER YEAR, Bush averaged 19 and The Shrub 21. Contrasting, Clinton averaged only 17 and Obama is averaging LESS THAN 10 PER YEAR, so far. (source:Congressional Research Service)
Abuse of power my sorry ass!!!! Let's make sure this factual information is spread to combat the lies the Teapugs will be spewing.
Des, can we change the acronym for the Republicans from the GOP, to the DAWSNAWD (Do As We Say Not As We Do) Party?
Somebody said recently that a difference between Republicans and Democrats is that Democrats are ashamed when they are hypocritical. Republicans...not so much.
