Do As We Say Not As We Do

Mitt Romney on Tuesday, commenting on the Justice Department blocking a South Carolina law requiring a photo ID in order to vote:

"I find it extraordinary that Eric Holder is, one more time, making a very serious error. The idea that people should not be able to be identified as they vote so that we can know that they are not voting multiple times. I mean, that's the purpose here of course. We don't want people voting multiple times and you can get a photo ID free from your state. You can get it at the time you register to vote."

On the other hand:

"For all of their years of claims that massive voter fraud is going on at the polling place, such that Photo ID restrictions are required to ensure the integrity of the vote, you'd think that when Republicans have a chance to run their own elections, they'd be sure to want it to be as "fraud" free as possible.

Nonetheless, despite onerous polling place Photo ID requirements now passed into law in about a dozen states where the GOP controls both the legislative and executive branches, voters will be able to cast their ballot in next Tuesday's "First-in-the-Nation" Republican Iowa Caucuses without bothering to show a Photo ID --- even though the Republican Party itself sets their own rules for voting there."

Oops.

If we have to follow orders like that we might as well open the liquor stores back up on election day. Great place to pretest voter id's, eh?

And up here in Minnesota, the news this week is that our State Republican Party is in rather large debt.

Do as we say, not as we do.

Iowa is about a two hour drive from here. I might take a little drive down there and stand outside a polling place during the Caucuses and ask for voter's I.D's. (No, I REALLY might)

It was rather amusing to see Santorum on MSNBC tonight bleating about how most people need IDs to "buy cigarettes or liquor or get on an airplane..." so he doesn't think voter ID laws are really voter suppression. What a damn fool.

The idea that many (if not most) people don't just "hop on an airplane" is beyond his limited intellectual abilities.

Most of us don't just hop on an airplane. Many of us don't get carded when we buy booze (damn it, I don't look 18 any longer). Many of us don't buy cigarettes. Some people are elderly and no longer drive. BUT they still have a constitutional right to VOTE. Without harassment.

Let's face it....the GOP is desperate to win by hook or by crook. Mostly by crook because that's all they have. Crooks and crazies. They dreamed up all this voter fraud malarkey because they can't figure out how Pres. Obama got elected. Couldn't be because he was the best candidate in 2008, was it? Nah....had to be fraud!

(Kind of like how BUSH got "elected" in 2000? We sure didn't hear those fools screaming about voter fraud back then.)

Pass the popcorn. I want to sit back and watch the clown act unfold in Iowa next week. They're all so desperate to win....as if that means diddly squat. Who won in '08? HUCKABEE, wasn't it?
