Today's award for Biggest Asshole in a Leading Role goes to the Republican front-runner du jour Newt Gingrich, for his comment at a Thanksgiving Family Forum (which is a joke in itself) that the Occupy Wall Street protesters should "go get a job right after you take a bath." From Think Progress:
You left out 'get a haircut,' dipshit.
The award for Biggest Assholes in a supporting role goes to all those who cheered.

Yup. People gotta eat. :-)
Hey Offshore,
I probably misread you a little bit, but I'd just like to point out that when we lump all of the politicians together, it does a great disservice to the ones that are trying to do the right thing. There's plenty of politicians whose policies would be far more beneficial to you and me than-others. Think of Bernie Sanders, Debbie Wasserman-Schultz, Keith Ellison. Out of office now, but Alan Grayson, Russ Feingold-these are people who are not..greedy.
I believe it plays to the urge to disengage from politics, which is just what the Republicans want, to lump all politicians together.
By the way...what's the matter with my keyboard? Lol.
Thanks, Bobo. I'm thinking that I may make a visit to one of the events and ask some questions. Maybe even donate some grub. I am not sure about the movement just yet but I am a firm believer that people gotta eat.
Hi, offshore. May I jump in?
Regarding what OWS is saying, now that I'm-not-the-world's-oldest-graduate-student-but-in-that-cohort, I would like to share what I've learned this semester in rhetoric class.
It's an effective communication technique to not be specific (as in championing a specific policy) because, without specificity, people will define you from their point of view. If you are not specific, some will become curious and want to know more, wondering if your group speaks for them. A sense of affinity builds slowly. Plus, the minute you get specific, you may lose some supporters so you should be strategic about the timing of a move like that. It's okay to say "end the war" instead of "end the war this way."
I've been to two OWS events here in Houston, which does not make me an expert. What I heard seemed to focus on two ideas, economic justice and sustainable environment.
Here's some data on the economic justice front:
Fed rate to banks: 0.25%
Fed rate to students: 7.0%
How does that make sense in a nation that says it wants and needs an educated populace?
Okay, jumping out now. Thanks for reading.
yup, it's the same thing...
alienHunter, I'd prefer to avoid the physics and think its just that the dumbasses never learn.
i'd call it a cosmic glitch...the Repubtilians think they can change the past and the future...they haven't studied John A. Wheeler closely enough...The pool balls will always follow the same trajectory after contact even if they begin their origins at a different point. They are caught in an endless loop ...doomed to repeat the same idiotic moves.
Sounds like the definition of insanity, huh.
the big 'sigh'...It's gets so tiresome being a genius, huh... :O)
"go get a job right after you take a bath."
Hey Newt. Here's some advice for YOU. How 'bout getting a divorce BEFORE you start dipping your wick in a fresh pot of wax?
This is the guy social conservatives want representing them? Where do I sign up? I thought they favored libertarians, not libertines.
alienHunter - Hopefully your investigation into that particular alien (Joe Walsh) has concluded so that you won't have to overload the 'universal translator' with his gibberish. Even the new dual-core translators limit out fast under those conditions!
A striking awards ceremony, to be sure... I would like to see the trophy shelf myself!
It is only fitting and just that Newt Gingrich win this award. Among his other dubious honors:
Biggest Congressional Asswipe 1994
Most notable Jerkwad of the Decade 1991-2000
Most Despicable Fox News Political Commentator and Dickhead 2004
Detestable Bastard Lifetime Achievement Award 2006
and.......
The First Ever Newt Gingrich Award awarded to Newt Gingrich BY........Newt Gingrich, of course.
Thanks for your reply, Doug. And yes, I think politicians in general, regardless of party, are greedy. Perhaps I need more diversity training so that I can overcome my urge to use stereotypes.
I suppose I did forget the words "Corporate Owned" but I figured that was implied. My bad. I’m not criticizing any group or keeping score, it just seems like the opinion of government as a whole is shifting and I don’t see anything wrong with that.
Take all the notes you want, Slick. I’m just asking questions and trying to make sense of it all.
PS: I think there is something wrong with your keyboard.
You bring up a very valid point...the only ones qualified to speak for OWS are the people on the street. They haven't lost their way...America and it's mouthpieces have. They still believe in what they came for.
It's like a religion...society in general wants to name it and spin it like they want it.
Hi Offshore,
I'll give a stab at what you're confused about..
"Maybe you can help me out here, AH. I’m beginning to be confused by the whole movement and I mean this purely in an inquisitive way. I was under the impression that the movement began in response to corporate greed and the influence of corporations in our government."
YES, YOU GOT THIS 100% RIGHT OFFSHORE. BUT THAT'S THE LAST THING YOU GOT RIGHT.
"Yesterday, Arianna Huffington said: "The Occupy movement is in large part a response to the diminished credibility of governments everywhere. And the way governments are dealing with the movement only further diminishes their credibility."
SO YOUR UPSET THAT IN HER QUOTE SHE DIDN'T ADD THE TERM (CORPORATE OWNED) BEFORE GOVERNMENTS? IS THAT A REQUIREMENT NOW EVERY TIME THE LEFT POINTS OUR THE FAILURE OF GOVERNMENTS? THANKS, I'LL TAKE NOTE.
It seems to me that, in recent years anyway, it has been the position of The Democratic Party that our government was perfectly fit to handle just about any undertaking, such as single payer universal healthcare.
NO, THE DEMOCRATIC PARTY WASN'T BEHIND SINGLE PAYER, OR THE PUBLIC OPTION FOR THAT MATTER. (LOOK AT WHAT THEY PASSED)
Is this where the left and the right can finally come together and say “They are all a bunch of greedy pendejos, right and left”?
WHAT ? EVERYBODY CAN AGREE THAT EVERYBODY IS...GREEDY?
UH, NO. NOT EVERYBODY IS GREEDY. DO YOU THINK EVERYBODY IS GREEDY OFFSHORE?
Gingrich is far dirtier than the protestors. He literally reeks with $1000/oz. cologne and after shave mixed with eau du polystyrene and rogaine. And, he has no job...
We won't mention the halitosis for now, eh?

I was watching Joe Walsh...he maintains that OWS doesn't understand America and another guy is upset because he doesn't see the American flag at the demonstrations. I was getting agitated watching this show of stupidity so I had to turn it off.
For my money, conservatives have made the American Flag synonymous with the Confederate Flag...By draping themselves in the flag they believe they can hide the ugliness underneath...wrong, it just rubs off on the flag.
