The Precedent Has Been Set

This is what happens when you start paying off hostage takers. It only encourages them to take more hostages:

"It set the template for the future. In the future, Neil, no president -- in the near future, maybe in the distant future -- is going to be able to get the debt ceiling increased without a re-ignition of the same discussion of how do we cut spending and get America headed in the right direction. I expect the next president, whoever that is, is going to be asking us to raise the debt ceiling again in 2013, so we'll be doing it all over."

One minor correction to what McConnell said. No Democratic president will be able to get the debt ceiling raised without repeating the circus we've witnessed the past few weeks. As we know from experience, when there's a Republican president debt and deficit don't matter.

:O) thanks...

alienhunter, we feel your pain.

I haven't read the details of the deal but it's more than likely a real bummer.

In my opinion the reality is that the Tea Party doesn't need to take their country back, they've owned it since the Revolution and now we have proof positive.

Obama is officially in my book of disappointments. He is trying to lead the country, not Democrats, that is his appointed job, but we should all forego our denial and admit that's not what we wanted.

He is a realist but again that's not what we really wanted, we wanted a progressive ideologue. I have conceded, despite having held out as long as I could.

The vast right wing conspiracy known by several aka's...Council on Foreign Relations, Bilderbergers, illuminati will simply not let it happen. We might as well enjoy the ride to oblivious slavery.

I'll pass on the car. Didn't she give away VW's? The TV sounds good to me. Do you think she can afford 50 or 60 million TV's?

Ya' know. A lot of people would vote for Oprah for president. 'Specially if she gave us all a car.
..
..
Car??? Hell, I'd vote for her if she just gave me a big screen TV.

Good point. The idiot part is current not former.

You ARE correct.
Thanks Bob.

I think that's idiot Republican former governor.

Kinda like Perot, only sane.

We just need a high-profile leader with soe money........kinda like a Ross Perot.
...
...
wWho has a lot of money that people would listen to and follow??????????
???
???
???
Just one person I can think of........
OPRAH.

I hear she pretty pissed at Obama.

Absolutely. Obama is turning off his former supporters every day. He's so focused on winning those independents he losing his base, except for the real die hards. But that's maybe 20-30 percent of the voters.

You think you're worried.

He's gonna give handsome guys like me with really good hair a bad reputation. Shit.

Will the people of America elect another former idiot republican governor from Texas to the highest office in the land?

If the economy sucks next September/October, I’m afraid the answer to that question could be yes.

I’m for whatever it takes. If that’s a third party, I’m in. The drawback to a third party is, of course, money. But if enough people are active and involved, it could work. A lot of people are pissed at both parties right now so I think the time is right for it. I don’t really like the idea of voting online, too much opportunity for it to be tampered with. Using the internet was something Olbermann spoke about in his Comment. Using the social media to organize like was done in Egypt. But it has to go beyond just starting or joining a Facebook group and complaining to each other. At some point that organization has to get in the streets and make some noise and start demanding what we want from the powers that be. Civil Rights didn’t come about by people waiting for it, neither did women’s rights or ending the Vietnam War.

“Freedom is never voluntarily given by the oppressor; it must be demanded by the oppressed.”---Martin Luther King, Jr.

This is my most horrible nightmare...that Perry will be the next President.

For those of you that poo-poo the idea, you might want to go to other blogs and read what the "people that vote" are saying.

My hair is turning more gray by the day.

We may be completely and totally screwed - more than we are now - if people decide that they are pissed and won't get out and vote.

Otherwise, we are doomed.

Everybody SAYS Jesus is a democrat.
..
But what about his Dad???? Old guy, white beard, screams republican to me.

You'd a thunk somebody who grew up in Chicago would have learned how to play politics. This guy could get snookered by a girl scout.

As if things weren't bad enough...........I heard that a recent presidential poll shows Perry defeating Obama in Pennsylvania. Another poll shows him just 4 points behind Romney and easily winning the repubtilian nomination if he can garner the Bachmann, Pawlenty, Santorum, and Huckabee morons. Which, given the circumstances, his good looks, his hair, pretty wife, and ability to avoid answering a question, should make him a very viable candidate.

Will the people of America elect another former idiot republican governor from Texas to the highest office in the land? Would a merciful God let that happen?

Or....learn how to play the game. Then, play it better than your opponent.

And, next time, IF you are going to bluff, don't tell your opponent your are bluffing.

To quote the great Baltimore Orioles manager Earl WEaver..."If you ain't cheatin', you ain't trying."

"If they're gonna grab you by the facemask, grab them by the balls."
An old coach of mine, Mr. Plummer.

It is our job to "unset" the precedent, label it "extraordinary, unusual, and misguided", and then preclude it from further use.

OTOH......................

Cat food is actually very economical and nitritious.

Who doesn't LOVE tuna?

Crackers make almost eveything more filling.

Jobs are overrated. Look how much free time you have when you don't have one. No timecard to punch. Take off whenever you want. Sleep late. Go the the beach.

A quote from Matt Taibbi worth noting:

"The Democrats aren’t failing to stand up to Republicans and failing to enact sensible reforms that benefit the middle class because they genuinely believe there’s political hay to be made moving to the right. They’re doing it because they do not represent any actual voters. I know I’ve said this before, but they are not a progressive political party, not even secretly, deep inside. They just play one on television."

Well said, young grasshopper! Well said.

You inspire me to be a better human being.
...
That's pretty "cheesy".
...
Whadya mean?
...
You stole that quote from the Jack Nicholson/Helen Hunt movie.
...
No I didn't. If Jack said it first, that's just a coincidence.

I second that!

Well put, Tater. A standing O from this end.

I, too, am angry and disappointed with this whole ongoing black comedy where it is like Groundhog Day in reverse; ie, gets worse towards the end of the movie.
It is sad but understandable how enough of the public that votes power to these despicable so&so's become self-centeredly misled, but the real disappointment to me has been obama. I kept hoping he was going to pull out of the hat the magic rabbit to make these evil persons go away.
Kinda shows how effective the right-wing mentor Joe Goebells has been with propaganda.
IMO, only a lot more pain is going to be able to change the outcome.
One possibility: the 3d party movement underway where all voters select the candidates online. Hope that progresses in a positive manner over the next several months.
Des, please let us know your thoughts on this progression.

CORRECTION: That SHOULD read Republicans AREN'T against spending money.

To give credit where credit is due.... the aforrementioned ...bastards, have played the game magnificently. They have been ahead of the president at every step. The democrats in congress aren't even playing the same game. They are still looking for their playbook.

The problem? Running America is NOT a game. There are no winners and losers in congress. There are only winners and losers in the great American republic. People in their homes, people at work, people living on fixed incomes, people in hospitals, people who barely make it from day to day, and some, even, that don't. People who have lost their jobs due to greed on Wall street. People who have lost their jobs because of gross government mismanagement. And people who lost their life savings and retirement funds due to greedy corporations, and fraud and theft by their CEO's and CFO's, the list is too numerous to mention. From Worldcom to Enron to Stanford Financial and on and on. And lastly, the people whoi lost their homes. Some, who shouldn't have bought a home and wouldn't have except for greedy lying mortgage bankers. and others who had their homes stolen right out from under them by the banksters and, in some instances, Freddie and Fannie themselves all while the heads of these pseudo-governmental institutions took home $20-30 Million in pay.

We elected a president who said he would change "government as usual". Perhaps we should have asked for "time frame".

"One minor correction to what McConnell said. No Democratic president will be able to get the debt ceiling raised without repeating the circus we've witnessed the past few weeks. As we know from experience, when there's a Republican president debt and deficit don't matter. "

Oh so true. Republicans are agaisnt spending money. They are agaisnt DEMOCRATS spending money. as long as it's wars, corporate welfare, and tax breaks for the rich, money is no object.

The question here is: Have the American PEOPLE learned anythinf from this debacle and blatant abuse of power? Have they seen the reputilians as the despicable blackhearted manipulative bastards they are?

Stay tuned for the exciting climax.
