Most Republicans come from the South. The South is historically behind in education. It shows.
If we shut down the U.S. Government, there will temporarily be no processing of new Social Security applications, leading newly qualified seniors or children with newly deceased parents to have less money (that they are owed from taxes they have paid their entire lives) to spend on food and medicine. Spending less on food and medicine leads to sickness, which leads to higher medical costs for all of us.
If we shut down the U.S. Government, federal employees will stop being paid and will default on payments for housing, spend less on food, not see a doctor if they are sick, etc. It seems like the Republicans are working really hard to get that double-dip recession they’re always talking about. This is good for them, they can then blame it on Obama. Can you hear it now? “It was Obama and the baby-killing liberals! They wanted to use our tax-dollars to fund abortions and they shut the government down over it.”
The Republicans took the house back this year. There has not been one single attempt at any type of jobs bill; with the forced shutdown of government and slashed spending on state levels there will be hundreds of thousands more out of work. Again, this is a good thing for the Republicans. Obama’s greatest weakness is his desire for bipartisanship and compromise. You can’t be bipartisan if one party never, ever compromises.
Americans are so damn stupid they’re going to fall for it again. Case in point, the Tea Party Patriots are out in full force encouraging the Government shutdown no matter the concessions made by the Democrats. A Tea Party Patriots e-mail message from an unnamed source:
A message to all members of Tea Party Patriots
See? This isn’t about abortion, or Planned Parenthood, or anything else. It’s about blocking government as a political strategy.
The problem is that actions have consequences. There are real people that are hard working servants – the people that engineer our bridges, ensure we don’t get scammed by a gas pump that doesn’t pump as much gas as it says it does, that design, work, and maintain the equipment our military uses to protect us. These people already have had their budgets cut, benefits reduced, and wages stagnant for ten years – now, when they are living paycheck to paycheck, the Republican Party is going to block government funding to score political points with their base.
I wonder how their base would feel if social security payments were blocked, too? Or that medicare they want the government to keep their hands out of?
