How Far Has the Republican Party Fallen?

Question: How would these two former Republican presidents fare in today's GOP?

"I see in the near future a crisis approaching that unnerves me and causes
me to tremble for the safety of my country...corporations have been enthroned and an era of  corruption in high places will follow, and the money power of the country will endeavor to prolong its reign by working upon the prejudices of the people until all wealth is aggregated in a few hands and the Republic is destroyed."---Abraham Lincoln

"Today in America, unions have a secure place in our industrial life. Only a handful of reactionaries harbor the ugly thought of breaking unions and depriving working men and women of the right to join the union of their choice. I have no use for those -- regardless of their political party -- who hold some vain and foolish dream of spinning the clock back to days when organized labor was huddled, almost as a hapless mass. Only a fool would try to deprive working men and women of the right to join the union of their choice."---Dwight Eisenhower

"Should any political party attempt to abolish social security, unemployment insurance, and eliminate labor laws and farm programs, you would not hear of that party again in our political history. There is a tiny splinter group, of course, that believes you can do these things...Their number is negligible and they are stupid."---Dwight Eisenhower

Answer: They wouldn't stand a chance.

Harsh? Not in my book. I thought you were being overly nice. ;-)

Oh, was that a little harsh???????
..
I didn't think so.

Today's republicans are dastardly, depicable human beings. Worthy of contempt from the rest of our society. Most "claim" to be Christians, but they do not exhibit "Christian" qualities in themselves or in their party.

Change is a fact of history. Lincoln and Teddy were progressives. Ike and even Nixon were moderates. Conversely, there was always a section of Democrats (Dixiecrats) that were conservative. The GOP has simply changed. Whether it has fallen or not depends not on what they preach but whether what they preach is in line with a majority of Americans. Political parties will always maneuver to where they see their base moving. As voters it is incumbent upon u's to first consider where we stand on the issues and then choose the party that represents that at the time. Some day it might mean voting Republican. That day is certainly not today but another shift is most certainly down the road.

It is quite ironic that Reps were accusing Obama of wanting to make the US a new Soviet Union because by their actions, Reps are actually trying to make it the new Russia of 2011, where only a handful of wealthy people (a mob) controls everything, and all of the government's moves are made solely in the interests of those people, like a country club.

I agree, they would not stand a chance. The Republican Party has changed radically due to the tea party and elites/corporations. There are some Republicans who are not happy with the tea party.

We also have seen a change in the Democrats due to the elites/corporations.

I believe corporations have most Politicians in their back pocket. The Politicians are not working for the people, like they use to. There are a few who try.

If the corporate financing of the Politicians isn't stopped, then don't expect things to change for the people.
A good example of this is: What is/has happened with the gulf and the people there.

Maybe it was always the corporations running things? Maybe we didn't realize it, because of the good life we were living? Maybe we realize it now, because of the information on the Internet?

Eisenhower's words have proved prophetic more than once...

Heck, even Ronald Reagan - their supposed saint - would be drummed out of today's GOP.

It's like the GOP has been totally infiltrated by the worst of the John Birch Society or the KKK.

Anyone with an ounce of compassion or common sense not encouraged to be a member.

You like the Taliban? I now pronounce the GOP: The TEALIBAN. Extremist idiots.
