Mississippi "Has Had No Oil": AG Wants Money for "Victims"

I'm confused. Mississippi Governor Haley Barbour said on Fox News Sunday last week that "we have had virtually no oil" on the beaches of his state:

He repeated it to John King on CNN:

"We have not had any of oil onto Mississippi's beaches. We had one intrusion on one of the barrier islands. It came up one day and washed out the next day and left no uhh... you couldn't even tell it had even been there."

But yet:

Tempers are growing short along the Gulf Coast, with Mississippi Attorney General Jim Hood firing the latest round, saying his state "will not take a dime less" than it is entitled to from the claims process established by BP to compensate victims of the massive oil gusher that is fouling the waters of the Gulf Coast.

[...]

Hood said his experience with Hurricane Katrina demonstrated that an open claims process is essential to keeping Gulf Coast businesses and individuals from succumbing to bankruptcy and foreclosure. "Victims need money now to stay afloat," Hood said.

Victims? What victims? How can their be victims when there has been no oil?

Forgive me for saying so, but some of the stupidest people I know are Republicans, some of the most disturbed personalities I know are Republicans, some of the most spoiled and self-centered people I know are Republicans, some of the most infantile in their personality development are...guess? I was thinking today that I went through the analogous political philosophy development (and I'm not a political person) when I was about 10 years old.

He's just trying to protect big oil. He has virtually been non-existant. Other govs like Crist, Riley and Jindal have been out and about meeting with their citizens, touring the beaches, speaking with Obama and BP officials... where is Haley? Whatever, you are going to tell me the oil skipped MS and went right to AL and FL? C'mon, what a joke and a lie.

No oil on the shore? No cash. Send it to Louisiana instead.

That's what you get for electing a douche.

Never confuse "sense" with "cents" or "scents." The Republicans haven't much sense, but can smell money and always want more than their fair share.

Typical GOP-teaparty mantra: chaos and confusion. Just in case anybody is listening, they have their surrogates out saying 2 different things, then to pepper the points they kick in the name Obama.

I suppose the 1.8 million Mr. Barbour recieved from big oil in the form of campaign contributions had nothing to do with his stance on this spill.

You can tell from the campaign contribution list what representatives from big oil are going to say about the oil spill before they say it. Barbour, Olson, Inhofe and Barton are not going to bite the hand that feeds them.

Lost tourism revenues? Fishing boats that can't fish? Just because there's no oil on Mississippi beaches doesn't mean there's no impact or loss.

What do you expect from Barbour? The idiot compared the oil spill to chocolate mousse and said if you get coated in toothpaste you would experience the same thing as being coated in oil! Barbour is an idiot!

I do believe we have the classic Marie Antoinette play going here: trying to have our cake and eat it too.

Talking out of both sides of their mouths, and still not saying anything helpful.
