Former Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin -- who has gone to great lengths to hype the supposed dangers of a big government takeover of American health care -- admitted over the weekend that she used to get her treatment in Canada's single-payer system.
"We used to hustle over the border for health care we received in Canada," Palin said in her first Canadian appearance since stepping down as governor of Alaska. "And I think now, isn't that ironic?"
The irony, one guesses, is that Palin now views Canada's health care system as revolting: with its government-run administration and 'death-panel'-like rationing. Clearly, however, she and her family once found it more alluring than, at the very least, the coverage available in rural Alaska. Up to the age of six, Palin lived in a remote town near the closest Canadian city, Whitehorse.
Officials at several hospitals in that area declined to give out information on patient visits.
I understand that her parent's choices aren't her own. It shows how callous some can be - she knows - from her own experiences - that our health care system is failing many normal, middle class Americans, and yet still uses terms like 'death panels'.
I can barely see through my anger to feel pity for her.
I don't like palin either,but....
If we want to be honest, Canada did not have the one payer health care when palin's family used it.
She lies most of the time she speaks,but what would be very telling to ask her now, is
does she receive her Health Care through Todd, subsidized health care for native Alaskans?
Does her son Trig received SSI due to his developmental disability?
Does her daughter receive any health/benefits for single parents or her grandchild?
And, I think it will be a cold day in hell before palin would allow a reporter to get that close to her to ask those questions!
How was she able to do this without some kind of Canadian Identification ? You can't just walk into a Doctors office in Canada and get treatment for anything unless it might be some kind of significant emergency. If she did get treatment, maybe she, or her parents had a forged id card. Gee that would make her party to an illegal act.
It amazes me too. Seriously, I think people are SO DESPERATE for someone they can look up to, admire, that they too readily accept any bozo the media trots out there. Give them a stage and a microphone and that's all the validity some people need.
I can honestly say that 100% of my female friends and my wife's female friends too (the ones that I don't put on MY friends list) agree she is a dim bulb, a bad representative of women everywhere, and her time in the spotlight should be OVER.
The fact that she seems to "appeal" to a lot of people (a lot being relative, of vourse), is a sad commentary on our country as a whole. Or should I say our "country as a hole." (Think about it)
I didn't see her on Leno II, but I hear she was charming and funny. Dangerous tools in the hands of an idiot.
This comes as no surprise.
Apparently people are still not understanding the hypocrisy we are dealing with. This is not about stopping socialized health care for everyone. This is about stopping socialized health care for YOU. Same as destroying public education. Social Security. Government assistance. etc...
Like I have said before. These guys don't have a problem with socialist organizations. They just have a problem with people they see as not worthy benefiting from socialist organizations.
If Palin had been elected, who here honestly believes she would have refused her government run/tax payer funded health care? Get real...
I have zero pity for Caribou Barbie. I think she's a lying sack of @@@@, who is a total opportunist.
What boggles my mind is that, even with every single FACT that comes out about what a piece of work she is, the drooling whackjob masses continue to fawn over her.
When will she just go the hell away??

Can you imagine her on the cmpaign trail for POTUS for a year???? David Letterman would be orgasmic.
Funny story. Apprently when Sarah was in Skagway in 2007, she told a similar story about her little brother burning his foot and her parents took him to Juneau by ferry for treatment. Now maybe the brother burned his foot on two different occasions, but personally I think the lady is lying.
During the lawsuit of Palin's daughter to collect child support for her baby, it came out in documents that the Palin grandchild and, therefore, all the Palins are covered under the government provided healthcare for Native Alaskans. Todd, Sarah's husband, is 1/8th Native Alaskan (a grandmother was 1/2), which make his children 1/16th and grandchildren 1/32nd. By this tenuous connection, the Palins all have free government health care, but to hell with everyone else. I have no pity for this woman.
