Olbermann, Maddow Pleas for Free Clinic Yield $1.7 million in Donations

Since Olbermann's one-hour special comment, posted on the Daily Hurricane here, where he called for donations to the National Association of Free Clinics to enable free clinics in the states with blue dog Democrat senators that intend to vote no on the public option.

On the November 12 episode of Countdown with Keith Olbermann, he said "Twenty-thousand of you . . . have now donated one million seven hundred thousand dollars since Countdown first brought this subject up."

How do you like them apples, Newsbusters?

On October 8, 2009, Newsbusters claims that because GE owns MSNBC, this is an 'astroturf' movement to support health care reform.

Funny how when it's MSNBC hosts call for action (through donation) to support the cause of free clinics and charities it's astroturf, but when Fox News does it to protest taxes and health care reform, it's fair and balanced, eh?

wilma i agree. and i spent all day yesterday with over a dozen doctors who support reform. they have different ideas about what the main problem is, what direction should be taken, but i was surprised that so many readily agreed something has to give. one even told me his vote with the AMA could turn into a witch hunt if the institution leaks out the info. i had no idea the votes were not open, but now it makes more sense that the AMA support carried. of course many doctors in texas probably trade their white coats for robes and attend tea parties on the weekend, on their way to drop a few bucks at the track of course.

Obermann orated a great 1 hour special. I had no doubt that people would support those clinics. What I wonder is if it will make a lick of difference in a vote. But even if it doesn't, people in need will be served. It's a no lose proposal.
