On November 27, 1942 in Seattle, Washington, Lucille Hendrix gave birth to a son she named Johnny Allen Hendrix. Johnny's father Al later changed his son's name to James Marshall Hendrix, better known as Jimi to rock music fans everywhere. Here's one of Jimi's best performances, in my opinion. His version of Bob Dylan's Like a Rolling Stone, at the Monterey Pop Festival in the summer of 1967: For my money, the best guitarist who ever picked up a Fender Stratocaster.

He played the Strat like a great surgeon uses his tools. A real artist.
If I remember the story correctly, Hendrix finished his set with Wild Thing and set his guitar on fire. To top that, The Who finished by smashing their guitars and amps and kicking over Moon's drum set.
right in, bro', amen. phenomenal cut. thnaks.
Bobo, I LOVE it! Great story and very true!
Jimi Hendrix -- it's what makes America great!
The day before Thanksgiving, I had to have my truck towed from Clear Lake to Spring Branch.
The driver turned out to be a music lover. From one end of Houston to the other, we traded musicians' names and favorite songs.
And when he got to Hendrix, we both paused in reverence. We agreed, he was the ultimate.
The thing is, like many Houstonians, he's from some other country and way too young to remember Hendrix on a personal level. Music -- that's how we should conquer the world!

This is one of those a-mazing performances...be patient and let it play through
In subcategories though, I have to put up Carlos Santana and Joe Satriani. In my mind they represent opposite ends of the spiritual spectrum. Santana inspired and Satriani possessed. :O)
A friend of mine says there's a really cool story behind that performance. There was a 'top billing' spat between Jimi and the Who. If I remember right he said the Who won but Hendrix assumed the stage with an "I'll show them" attitude. And indeed he did. I think the Who's performance was memorable as well. Someone here mentioned (I believe) that there were many great performances at that music festival. The thing most striking to me is that it seemed many of the performers were dead within an unreasonable amount of time.
IMHO, the greatest guitar player EVER! Thanks for the memories...
