I liked Obama's comment on pardoning the "Thanksgiving turkey": "There are certain days that remind me of why I ran for this office. And then there are moments like this, where I pardon the turkey and send it to Disneyland."
It would've been much better if he'd simply ditched the ritual. It's not like throwing out the first ball. He could've ditched it, and would've felt much better about himself for having done so.
