Update On Census Worker Murder in Kentucky: Not Much to Report

The Williamson Daily News is reporting that the memorial service for Bill Sparkman, part-time census worker who was brutally murdered in Kentucky over a month ago, will be held tomorrow at a church in London, Kentucky.  A reader asked that I update this story, and after a little research, I'm surprised just how little new information is out there.  Here we have a federal employee brutally murdered outside a small town in Kentucky, and no law enforcement agency has even announced that his death was a homicide.

The FBI and Kentucky State Police are going slowly in the investigation of this murder that occurred in an area that is notorious for moonshine and marijuana farms and where anti-government sentiment runs high.  Clearly, the case is not cut and dry, and there is speculation that authorities are slow playing hoping someone will talk.

I'll continue to monitor the case and will update as details develop.

no you are not fear mongering. example would be fox news drumming up a constant tune of "polls" about healthcare prices going up & quality going down if reform passes. or the "fox news alerts" which are really just run of the mill promos for their crap of the day. i used to think the fringe was insignificant and the extinction technique was the best to handle it. but after i investigated groups "the angry mob" and "the conservative underground" on facebook i realized a tapestry of potential violence is being woven by patriot groups which leads to groups like F.U.B.A.R. (free united brotherhood against radical) where you find the 2010 tea party flyer saying "yes we can, roll obama in the mud where he belongs, strangle the fascists with their own rope" and "meet the census with 2nd amendment rights, soon they'll run out of willing volunteers". the man who is the brain-trust of this, earl baumgardner has a 1st amendment right to spew this hate speech and mobilize his hate mongers, masquerading as conservatives who simply "want their country back". homeland security director napolitano felt it necessary to eat her hat and back pedal on the report saying domestic terrorism most probable by ex-military & police. a conclusion reached before obama was elected, initiated by the bush administration, yet right wing fanatics used the information to incite paranoia that their guns were being taken away, resulting in ammunition shortages and possibly the state of mind of the old man who killed the guard at the holocaust museum. the murder of the census worker could be coincidental, but the fact that every major cable news outlet has eliminated the story registers on my radar. although it could be a gag order or sorts by the justice dept or the fact that media attention span in a twitter society has no patience for the case until it is solved. in any case i do not believe paying attention to correlations is fear mongering, just sensible use of "connect the dots".

MY brother-in-law is from Kentucky and he says there a lot of people there, living in the woods, where it STILL IS 1950.

Theyre secretive but not too smart id guess...surely DNA evidence, hairs, or skin was found on his person? Shoe and/or tire trax around the scene? Damn, this is one of those cases where ya pull out all the stops...we cant let anyone get away with killing a census worker, else we could have a target on every one of their backs by every anti-government misanthrope in the country. (Am i fearmongering?)

bob,
i understand the case is complicated and the investigation complex, but to have it dropped from the media like it never happened? today fox started up some census crap about counting illegals and never mentioned the murdered census worker, like they did not know it happened. cnn and msnbc too have dropped the story, it's like this poor man died like some run of the mill bar fight you'd see on the local news and forget the next day. but as you stated, this man was employed at the time of his death as a united states employee taking the census! the comical will not cover this so i knew you would be the only one to try and get some answers. reminds me of the movie "mississipi burning and i'm wondering if the feds are getting anything or it's a stall like when gene hackman had to go to that town and kick some ass! well thanks for trying, think i'll start blasting some emails to eric holder and the gov of kentucky, try and shake things after watching police chases on fox for hours, balloon boy and so much about the new paymaster for wallstreet, i'm ready for the "news you can use"! keep us up with anything you hear please.

Sounds like maybe we ought to put a high fence around the place like "Escape From New York" and exclude them from the Union!

eljefe, please keep us posted. This reminds me way too much of the 50's that I grew up in...

I grew up not too far from this area. To say the people there are secretive would be way too mild a statement.
