The Usual Suspects at the "How to Take Back America" Conference

47-gripe-nuts.jpgOver the weekend the Hilton Hotel in St. Louis was the site of what Firedoglake appropriately named "a pulsating black hole of stupidity" also known as the How to Take Back America conference, and the gang (pictured at left) was all there.

"[Phyllis] Schlafly opened the event by saying she believes President Obama is "taking us into socialism."... She said of her organization, Eagle Forum, "fighting feminists is still our main object," arguing that feminism is "the most destructive force in the world."

[Mike] Huckabee, who headlined the event, told a friendly crowd Saturday evening, in reference to the United Nations, that "it's time to get a jackhammer and to simply chip off that part of New York City and let it float into the East River, never to be seen again!...he added, "it has become the international equivalent of ACORN and it's time to say enough!"

Michele Bachmann got in on the ACORN bashing with this:

"Bachmann described the conference as a "farewell party" for embattled community organization ACORN. She said that if Republicans retake Congress next year they will "pass repealer bill after repealer bill" and proclaimed that "defunding the left is going to be so easy and it's going to solve so many of our problems."

Poor Michele, she still doesn't understand how the legislative process works.

"Retired Army Lt. Gen. Jerry Boykin was the first speaker Saturday...Boykin warned that "there is no greater threat to America than Islam."

OK, I'm confused already. Which is it, feminism or Islam? Oh well, never mind, back to Gen. Boykin. [He] "begged the audience to pray for their country. "It's only because of intercessory prayer that we haven't been hit again since September 11."

More confusion. I thought that was due to Dick Cheney and "enhanced interrogation techniques." I guess I was mistaken.

In one of the sessions called, "How to Recognize Living Under Nazis and Communists," speaker Kitty Werthman:

..."found herself speaking to an overflowing room of conservative activists about the parallels between Obama and the rise of Hitler...Werthmann explained how Hitler had euthanized mentally handicapped children, and how he'd kept lists of political enemies.

"What would you suggest we do," asked one activist, "if we are asked to give up our guns?"

"Don't you dare give up your guns!" thundered Werthmann. "Never, never, never!"

"Give them back one bullet at a time!" called out another activist."

But the conference wasn't all serious. There was some levity, although probably unintentional. Samuel Wurzelbacher, aka Joe the Plumber, received a golden wrench and golden plunger award. You just can't make this stuff up.

i was watching the hearings on cspan today and it occurred to me that the republicans are such two faces when it comes to certain policies. on the one hand, they want to wrap themselves in the 10th amendment "states rights hysteria" and then talk out of the other side of their mouths about insurance "across state lines" which would in effect have the federal gov't tell states how to administer insurance plans! this despite every state having its own insurance regulators and insurance board. so it's ok to tell states they have to regulate insurance for competition and tort reform but not ok to tell states to cover all its citizens. also crazy michelle bachman seems now obsessed with planned parenthood "overcharging" poor women for birth control pills! i thought she was opposed to birth control, now i'm supposed to believe she gives a shit about poor women being taken advantaged of because the gov't was overcharged?

24 font and lots of pictures, wink wink.
Even the thought of the Wasilla Wingnut "penning" (ok, we know she didn't) a book makes me lose my appetite.

These whackjobs scare the shit out of me. They are totally delusional and they are DANGEROUS.

Shortstuff, Caribou Barbie's book is 400 pages long because it's in 24 font. Hafta remember who your audience is, you betcha.

Scary observation.

Me too. I really thought we had outgrown that. But, apparently, it has been festering under rocks ALL over the country just waiting for this opportunity to awaken and spread.

What I fear most is that this type of bigotry and perverse political ideology must die of its own accord. NOthing will or can change these people.

Yes, it's pretty scary. I pray every day nothing happens to our president. There are so many haters and nutzos out there. It seems they have all come out of their holes now and they seem to be be proud of the fact that they hate Obama, illegals, Jews, gays, Muslims, abortion doctors, anyone else who disagrees with their wacked out thinking. No one is safe.

Quite similar to the rhetoric before the JFK assassination.

Another loose nut from the conference that I missed. President Obama does “insane things” and is an “enemy of humanity.”

I heard about the Facebook "poll" and was horrified. People need to wake up and realize that there is a serious, really serious, problem with hate in our country and people are going to get hurt or killed.

Never in my lifetime did I think that people, such as those desperado mentioned above, would go so completely over the edge...

What, they forgot to address the obligation for Republican women to go through an abortion, pregnant or not?

Hum, they're getting softer...

(CNN) -- The social networking site Facebook on Monday pulled a third-party application that allows users to create polls after a site member built a poll asking if President Obama should be killed.
There are more than 350,000 applications on Facebook. The company says it disables any that violate its terms.

There are more than 350,000 applications on Facebook. The company says it disables any that violate its terms.

The U.S. Secret Service, the agency assigned to protect the president, has launched an investigation, agency spokesman James Mackin said.

"As is usually the case, our vigilant users reported it to us first," Facebook spokesman Barry Schnitt told CNN. "The USSS [Secret Service] sent us an e-mail late this morning PDT asking us to take it down. At that point, it had already been removed, and we let them know."

Schnitt said the application "was immediately suspended while the inappropriate content could be removed by the developer and until such time as the developer institutes better procedures to monitor their user-generated content."

Facebook allows third-party developers to create applications -- such as polls and quizzes -- which are then made available to Facebook users, who use the applications to create specific content. Users may choose to make their content available to the general population of Facebook or limit it only to their friends.

In this case, Schnitt said, the user made the poll asking whether Obama should be killed available to the general public.

The possible responses to the poll were "yes," "maybe," "if he cuts my health care" and "no."

Schnitt said the poll "appears to have been posted over the weekend."
-----------------------------------------------
guess schnitt's vigilant users decided the angry mob and conservative underground's tea party 2010 flyer saying "roll obama in the mud where he belongs" is not inappropriate. reading the above between the lines, seems to me if the hater who posted the "kill obama" poll had kept it amongst other hater friends it would have been fine.

Well....we know what the 21% are doing. Have been doing. Will be doing for the next 2-4 years.

I take solace in their small numbers and even smaller minds. I hope Rush Limbaigh loses ANOTHER 90 POUNDS.

Yea, I saw that on the news this morning. I think the title is "Going Rogue". Funny thing, when I googled "rogue definition" to make sure I was spelling rogue correctly, the first definition that came up was "a deceitful and unreliable scoundrel". Kind of describes her claims about "death panels" and her quitting in the middle of her term as governor to a tee doesn't it ?

The crazies want to compare Obama to Hitler?! LOL... I guess they haven't read their history books and learned how Hitler scapegoated the Jews for all of Germany's problems. The right-wing fascists in this country are merely substituting Jew for Liberal. Picking up where Hitler left off.

Short, I believe she had a ghost writer or co-author so don't give her too much credit. She is a lazy woman. She has the IQ of a houseplant. And what is the "going rouge" title? She is trying to capitalize on the fact that she was some type of ball busting out VP candidate who broke the glass ceiling, called out John McCain, et al? Give me a break. This book promises to be nothing but fluff, no substance and hardly worth the price but people will buy it simply because it's Sarah. Sarah Plain and Stupid.

Meanwhile, in Doofusland, I see that Silly Sarah has - after FOUR months - completed her 400 page memoir. FOUR HUNDRED PAGES! WOW!
It can't be any longer because that would entail thinking and depth. She has neither.
I can see the first page now: "See Sarah. See Sarah run. Look, Sarah. Look look look. See big store. The store is full of pretty clothes. Old white people buys the clothes for Sarah. Wink, Sarah. Wink wink wink. You betcha."
I hope her diary sells less well than Dumbass DeLay's did.

I do not understand how anyone can stand and give a lecture about the rise of Hitler and compare it to Obama. Especially since it was closer to Bush's administration. And do you know what we did? We voted him and his ilk out. We didn't threaten people with guns, we didn't pay talking heads to bash him 24 hours a day, we just used our democracy to change the way things went. Ok? They need to take a page from our book and focus on what's right instead of always being concerned with power. They're just sick, and losing people quickly. They've become a joke.

And while John Culberson sends out literature (using our tax dollars) about evil liberal spending, his district is one of the highest uninsured in the nation. He needs to work on that.

Oh good heavens. With all that vitriol, and venom in one room -- it's a wonder the place didn't just blow up!

I'm trying to give all this hate, as little attention as I can.

People who don't even know - who aren't even sure what they are most paranoid about --- don't deserve my time.

Let them bounce around the FOX echo chamber.

I don't watch or listen to FOX.

Sounds like an interesting(not)conference. What was their major theme? Sounds a bit confusing to me. A bunch of no-names, wash-ups and people of little intelligence or common frackin sense. How to take back America? Simple - We can start by not re-electing any of these morons to another office. Did my tax dollars pay for their conference costs, plane ticket, hotel? Did any TX nutzos attend? And why is Joe the Plumber still being paraded out as someone who actually has an intelligent point or argument? The guy fixes toilets, hardly a scholar on American history or politics. Nothing against plumbers but just sayin.... eeesh.
