The best laid plans of mice and Republicans oft go awry.
"The congressional legislation intended to defund ACORN, passed with broad bipartisan support, is written so broadly that it applies to "any organization" that has been charged with breaking federal or state election laws, lobbying disclosure laws, campaign finance laws or filing fraudulent paperwork with any federal or state agency. It also applies to any of the employees, contractors or other folks affiliated with a group charged with any of those things.
In other words, the bill could plausibly defund the entire military-industrial complex. Whoops.
Rep. Alan Grayson (D-Fla.) picked up on the legislative overreach and asked the Project on Government Oversight (POGO) to sift through its database to find which contractors might be caught in the ACORN net.
Lockheed Martin and Northrop Grumman both popped up quickly, with 20 fraud cases between them and the longer list is a Who's Who of weapons manufacturers and defense contractors."

My wife was telling me about a "grass roots" organization in college called "Men against rape." Indeed, what man would raise their hand and say, "I am for rape"?
Indeed, we are all against corruption. It makes you wonder why it exists.
I, for one, am glad that such legislation was written and passed. For too many years we have been ripped off by literally hundreds of government contractors. Now, I'm sure, this legisltation will stop that.
(ROFLMAO)
Future GOP legislation (in the same vein)
House bill to prohibit hurricanes, floods and blizzards
Senate bill to prohibit any more bad movies by Adam Sandler
House bill to prohibit drunk college girls from taking off their tops during spring break...in Cancun. (I'm pretty sure this won't pass out of committee)
Oh, don't worry. Our corrupt friends on the right will most assuredly look out for their buddies in weapons manufacturing. I mean how will they arm the troops when they need to steal a sovereign countries' resources?
These are the biggest perpetrators of fraudulent acts against the American tax payer. Far bigger than NASA contractors, many times bigger than ACORN. Who really runs this country? Let's see what happens to this law... Does it exclude them, or include them? Any bets what it will be?
Russell Mohkiber (sp.?) in an essay posted on www.commondreams.org - also mentions a bunch of big pHarma companies: Pfizer, et al. All indicted, all paid big fines to Uncle Sam.
So,..... why would a Democratic congress vote to cut off funding to ACORN, and let stay in place.... contracts with Halliburton, KBR, and Blackwater/Xe??? And, continue to take campaign contributions from corporations indicted for breaking federal law?
AstrosGirlKel is right. It's because the right-wing makes noise -- louder and more often.... than the poor people who are helped by ACORN.
ACORN got the bullseye on its back because it registers poor people to vote -- and they mostly vote the Democratic Party.
Talk about cutting off your nose.
Other reports on www.Buzzflash.com, indicate that the fired ACORN employee (the one video-taped) did go to the police and report the incident.
Another report mentions the grant funding received by the guy who produced these videos, comes from the same people who normally heavily contribute to the causes championed by the Right.
President Obama: Take note: You read these kinds of stories --- not in the Mainstream Press, but in the blogosphere.
Nothing new here. The GOP has long favored simplistic, easy fixes. Much less complicated than actually understanding an issue and drafting a real solution.
The list goes on. Balanced budget amendment, term limits, property tax assessment freezes. They do love showy gimmicks. But then the details sink in - that whole complicated "governance" thing.
It's like Rep. Eric Cantor telling a sick woman, one of his constituents, to find a government program to help her - nice simplistic solution, except that he is the very guy fighting those programs.
Details,details. All so messy.
$26126.8m in "misconduct." Are you thinking what I'm thinking?
Looks like there might be enough money from that who's who list of defense contractors to make a hefty down payment on something like a better healthcare program for US citizens.
Finally! Some new jobs, eh?
I read on Huffington Post that Blackwater might be covered too - and it got me to thinking. I agree, if ACORN has been doing these things they're accused of, they should be F-I-R-E-D. But why are we looking past Blackwater? They've got a worse reputation than ACORN. They've quite possibly caused a lot of deaths.
Honestly? Republicans bitch more. So ACORN is treated as worse than Blackwater.
